Barack Obama has a world-wide appeal. The only people that don’t like him are the majority of the Republicans according to a recent poll. In fairness and respect, there is one Republican that has consistently been fair with Obama, Democrats, Republicans and any other topic I have seen him comment on. Ed Rollins, senior political contributor to CNN, former political director for Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee gets it. He’s a straight shooter and even when critical or on the opposite side of a position he’s dignified.
In Rollins’ recent commentary about Barack Obama, the world’s love affair with him and his recent moves overseas, he makes valid points and leaves us with great questions and even a few historical nuggets of wisdom. To be sure, Barack Obama is extremely popular here and abroad. It’s my bet that if you asked the President, “Would you prefer to be liked or respected?” after some banter he would probably say respected.
Respect is earned. On the world stage, America had lost a lot of it thanks to our former regime. It is unlikely that Obama can sustain his current approval ratings but I am hopeful they remain high. Change!
